Civic Involvement

The Franklin Park Conservatory and the ScottsMiracle-Gro Community Garden Academy

Scotts Miracle-Gro is a major supporter of the Franklin Park Conservatory's capital campaign and its efforts to build a community gardening campus. Scotts Miracle-Gro also partners with the Columbus Foundation to administer the Scotts Miracle-Gro Community Garden Academy. Over 100 community gardeners have benefited from a series of courses designed to provide skills and resources necessary to maintain a community garden. These same gardeners can apply annually to receive financial assistance to further increase their garden's sustainability.

ScottsMiracle-Gro is also a major supporter of Nationwide Children's Hospital's Center for Child and Family Advocacy. The center provides an innovative, one-stop location for families seeking to break the cycle of domestic violence.

The Scioto Mile

Even though ScottsMiracle-Gro is headquartered in Marysville, revitalizing and strengthening downtown Columbus is critical to the quality of life of our associates. We have partnered with the City of Columbus, American Electric Power and other key stakeholders to support the development of The Scioto Mile. This system of parks, bikeways and pedestrian paths around the Scioto Riverfront will provide a "green" backbone to for numerous recreational opportunities.

Miracle-Gro Capital Scholars

The Miracle-Gro Capital Scholars (MGCS) program, based at COSI in Columbus, brings together parents, teachers and associates to mentor, motivate and encourage approximately 50 students in their academic and personal development. Scholars who successfully participate in the program and graduate from high school will have college funded by the Company. The program is modeled after the highly successful, "Miracle-Gro Kids" program in New York City and funded by the Hagedorn Family Foundation.

Union County Veterans Memorial Monument

The Union County Veterans Memorial Monument recognizes all Union County veterans who have served in our armed forces. The Company and Chairman and CEO Jim Hagedorn, personally made the largest contributions to this effort and served as the driving force in the establishment of the memorial. The memorial is located on the lawn of the Union County Courthouse and consists of a granite monument, an interactive computer kiosk and memorial bricks engraved with the names of veterans.

The Ohio State University Future Engineers Summer Camp

Female students entering into the eighth grade from central Ohio area schools are invited to attend this week-long summer camp to explore concepts in engineering and science. As the sponsor of the camp program, ScottsMiracle-Gro hosts the girls at its Marysville headquarters to spend a day in the research and development facility and green house operations.

United Way

For several years running, ScottsMiracle-Gro has been a primary sponsor of the United Way of Union County's Community Care Day, which sends hundreds of volunteers throughout the county each spring to complete numerous social service projects. We have also been the most active in volunteer participation the last two years. Additionally, our associates combined with Corporate giving make ScottsMiracle-Gro the second largest contributor to the United Way of Union County's fund drive.

Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio

ScottsMiracle-Gro recently pledged a multi-year gift to the Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation to support the hospital's mission to provide the highest quality health care, advocacy, research, education and service to children and their families.
