Our Commitment to Improvement

ScottsMiracle-Gro is continuously improving its operational practices to achieve positive environmental results. Improving our environmental profile is also good business, because it typically leads to less waste and lower costs. Here are just a few highlights from our operations in North America:

• Making operational improvements resulting in a 6.7 percent decrease in water usage at our major manufacturing operations in Marysville, Ohio; Temecula, California; Fort Madison, Iowa; and Charleston, South Carolina.

• Reducing the discharge of process and sanitary water at our Marysville, Ohio facility by more than 90 percent over the past 10 years through the treatment and reuse of water in our production process. Today, only three of our 30 North America supply chain locations generate greater-than-negligible quantities of hazardous waste. Additionally, in 2005, our total hazardous waste generation decreased by six percent.
• Decreasing TRI (Toxic Release Inventory) reported air emissions by 46 percent across North America manufacturing (excluding the Marysville plant).
• Reducing actual energy use by 24 percent from 2004 to 2005 in our North America supply chain operations.

We continue to explore new ways to improve in each of these areas.
