Our Partnerships

Outreach & Information

We partner with government and non-government agencies as well as local communities to work towards protecting our environment and creating a more beautiful world. Our key partnerships include:

Keep America Beautiful

ScottsMiracle-Gro and Keep America Beautiful collaborate to create greater awareness of the environmental and social benefits of community green spaces. ScottsMiracle-Gro has funded the development of public gardens in several cities across the U.S. The partnership with Keep America Beautiful expanded in 2007 with the introduction of "30 Days of Green," an educational initiative co-developed with Scholastic and the National Gardening Association. This program encouraged students and their families to get outdoors and garden during National Garden Month and provided parents with inspiration for outdoor-related activities to help their families reconnect with nature. In 2008, ScottsMiracle-Gro and Keep America Beautiful are partners in a nationwide education effort to support water quality.

Chesapeake Bay

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company worked with Chesapeake Bay stakeholders to further protect the environmentally sensitive Chesapeake Bay water system by reformulating its lawn fertilizer products. After extensive engagement with environmental stakeholders in the Chesapeake Bay area, ScottsMiracle-Gro made the decision to reduce the phosphorus content of its fertilizers by 50 percent. This reduction is reflected in the Turf Builder line of products.

The decision emerged through consultation with local and state governments, elected officials, the EPA, academics and environmental and community groups.

The reduction in phosphorus content addresses concerns about nutrient loading in the Chesapeake Bay. While the stakeholders agree that lawn and garden fertilizers make up a small percentage of total nutrients flowing into the bay, the group found consensus around the principle that every contributor should do its part to help water quality in the bay. ScottsMiracle-Gro is conducting similar outreach and consultation with environmental stakeholders in the Great Lakes and San Francisco Bay areas.

Long Island Waterways
Long Island Waterways

Improving water quality and promoting the environmental sustainability of the Long Island Sound are priorities for residents of this historic area. ScottsMiracle-Gro established a relationship with The Nature Conservancy and the New York League of Conservation to help ensure that pesticide control products are used appropriately and remain out of the Long Island water system. ScottsMiracle-Gro continues to work with local governmental agencies to identify effective ways to educate area homeowners on environmental stewardship practices for lawn and garden care.
